Sea Cleaners

On Tuesday the 12th of March a lady named Tracy came in to talk to us about the pollution in the
ocean. She started talking to us about the Pacific Garbage Patch, She said she didn’t know how
deep it was but she knew that it was twice the size of Texas, I found out that it is actually 9 feet d
eep. She said that the most garbage they found was 5.6 million litres of rubbish, crazy right! It’s
amazing how much rubbish goes to landfill and how much goes to sea. Tracy told us that there
is lots of sea life swimming around in the garbage patch and I discovered that most of the rubbish
that goes in the ocean ends up in that patch because it is where the oceans meet so there would
be a current from each way.

Pepeha

Kia Ora Bloggers, In Te Ngahere we have been learning our pepeha, I
really enjoy practicing my pepeha because It is the story of my life back
to my great grandad John Mason. In a Pepeha you have a Maunga (Mountain),
an Awa (River), a Whanau (Family), a Kura (School) & your family.

Anzac Bikkies

Kia ora Bloggers! In Te Ngahere we have been learning about ANZAC Biscuit problems.
We had to make a DLO about it, Here is mine.

When I was making the DLO I didn’t know what to write or how to write it and I did not ask
for help so next time I will ask for help.
I thought I did well when I was collaborating with my group.

The Nukes

Kia Ora Bloggers! On Tuesday April 2nd Paihia School was lucky enough to be visited by the Nukes ukulele band. Tawhiri & I were 2 of the 25 people chosen from Paihia School to be a part of their junior band the Crazy Chickens. There were also 12 students from Russell School. The cool thing about the lesson was that I got to see my old friend Ethan again. During the ukulele lesson we got to learn 3 new songs (all created by the Nukes). One was called Peas and Carrots, the 2nd one was called Worms and then the last one was called Two Potatoes. The best thing I learnt from the band is that you don’t have to come from someplace where the ukulele is popular you just need to try and try. Maybe next time I could try and learn how to play the ukulele faster and better.

Tynker

Kia Ora Bloggers. In Te Ngahere we have been learning about coding,
I was allowed to use this really cool site called Tynker code. On Tynker
Code you can code, create & decorate whatever you put your mind to, I
kept decorating premade Minecraft Blocks, Items, Mobs and Skins.
These are some of the things I did.

I think I did really well by trying to make the colours of what the things looked
like match to the different looks of the body and outer layer. Maybe next time
I could try and stay to the design. There are lots of other things you can do with tynker
other than Minecraft like dragon coding and picture painting and even creating
your own new creations!!!

Identity Project

Kia ora Bloggers! On Monday 19th of February Whaea Monika and Whaea Kerry came to
Paihia School to finish the work we started at the Waitangi treaty grounds with them. We
were learning to identify ourselves. At the Treaty Grounds the yr 6’s got to use Paint 3D
to create some characters for us to put on our digital waka. We Used Tinkercad to create
some trees with the different shapes that were there, Dezray and I created one large Kanuka Tree,
One Medium, one small and one fallen over one (All Kanuka) and a few Flax Bushes).
Whaea Monika and Whaea Kerry told us to go onto the devices (I used my chromebook) and create a
sculpture of our identity, I put Mount Egmont (Taranaki) on mine because it is where I am from, I also
Put 6 koru’s on mine because it is representing my family, My dad, My mum, My dog, my 2 brothers,
my sister and me. I put a picture of the lily pond river on it because I love swimming there and I put my
dog and her kennel because I really love her

I really enjoyed making the trees because it was fun to experiment with the different ways that I could
make them. I think that next time I could make different Ideas and try my hardest.

Waitangi Treaty Grounds

Kia Ora Bloggers!! On February the 7th and the 8th (Thursday and Friday)
the year 6’s went to the Waitangi Treaty Grounds. We got to work with really
cool gadgets Including Virtual Reality, SculptGL, Paint 3D, Tinkercad, Dashbot (Robot coding),
Green Screen & Stop Motion. The 2 people that were there with us were Whaea Monika &
Whaea Kerry. On the first day that we were there half of us went on a Hikoi (a walk around
the Treaty Grounds) and the other half got to have a tutu with the technology that was there.

These are the things that we used.

During the Hikoi we walked around the Waitangi Treaty Grounds to Ngatokimatawhaorua
(Ngatokimatawhaorua is a famous waka). It was really cool because we got to go through
the Waitangi museum and see the copy of the Treaty of Waitangi.
