Dragon Writing

Kia Ora Bloggers! For the last 2 weeks we have been doing some writing. For this particular piece of writing we took a photo and turned it into a story. Here is mine.

It was a week like no other, a day with the sun shining down… on most people. The king had just executed nearly an entire village with the help of his dragon named Luigi. The dragon was a vivid green and had the long and curled horns of a goat. The rest of the village folk broke through the barriers of the kings great castle. They stormed up the steps pitchforks and torches in hand. The king saw the mob and began to call “KEEP THEM AWAY FROM MY DRAGON!”. The knights burst through the grand door and started to charge down the mob. Though they jabbed and pushed only 2 were left climbing up the wall. They reached the top of this historic place. They saw the great beast and came up with a plan “We’ll lure him here with a piece of meat on a stick, he will take the meat and gobble it up, then we will jab him and stab him until he is dead!”.

As the dragon glides over, his humongous wings flapping the boys hear the king scream “NO LUIGI NO, THEY ARE TRYING TO KILL YOU!”. As the dragon eats the food the boy pushes the pitchfork down the dragon's throat instantly killing the giant monstrosity. The dragon falls down whilst squashing the king, his crown flies up high and the boy who killed Luigi catches the crown on his head.

As the boys climb down something crazy happens. All of the knights were bowing down to the one who caught the crown! They all started saying “Oh My Liege, we are at your fingertips, if there is an invasion we will fight back the townsfolk!”. But the boys didn’t like that idea “Oh no you won’t, I want the gates open to the townsfolk forever so they can come and visit, especially my family!” he indicated his parents. “Yes my liege, we will leave the great castle open to the village!”. So from that grand day the castle gates were always left open, though there were many people who didn’t like this all was well, except for when the king had a daughter… To be continued!

I really enjoyed being able to take one picture and turn it into my own story. This time when I was writing I was trying to create an emotional response for the reader. Some of the words I used that did this were monstrosity, invasion & stormed. Maybe next time I could do it about the boys befriending the dragon. Hopefully I will be back soon with some more writing! Science Fair #2

Kia ora bloggers! In my last post I wrote about the Paihia School science fair. Even though this post is also about the science fair it is about what happened after. Before the judges came around we practiced with the other groups with what we were going to say. I was really nervous about the science fair & I was fidgeting around alot when people were coming around to examine our experiments. Even though I was really nervous I still tried my best to explain my experiment to the judges and all the other people who came to look at my board. After everyone had come around Mrs Lindsay told us all to go back to class. At assembly the teachers gave out the certificates for the people who came 1st, 2nd, 3rd & highly commended. I came 1st!!!! The people who won are now going to the Kerikeri Turner centre for the science fair which goes from the 28th of August to the 30th of August. I am really excited and I will definitely be doing another blog post about it after. Blog you later!

Science Fair

Kia ora Bloggers! In Te Ngahere this Term we have been doing some
Science Fair Projects. My Science experiment was about Sea Water
Salt Ice VS Homemade Salt ice & which keeps your chilly bin coldest.
Today we have to present our experiments in the whare and I am
extremely nervous because we have judges coming around to look
at our boards with our experiments on them, then they will judge
them and the best 3 will go to the Kerikeri science fair at the Turner
Centre. Here is my experiment

Maybe next time I could start my actual experiment earlier.
Doing these experiments has been really helpful as when we
go to highschool we have to do them for two years so this is
helping us understand what we have to do. I really liked learning
about this because it gave me information about things like hypothesis
and variables which I never use to understand, but now I know the
difference between an independent variable and a controlled variable
(Indepent is what you will change and controlled is what you will keep the same).

NED

Kia Ora Bloggers! In Te Ngahere this week a lady named Nicole came to our school from the Ned’s Mindset Mission. She showed us some really cool tricks with her Excelerator Yoyo. She told us a story about a boy named Ned who always used to say I know and this is easy for everything but whenever things got hard he used to just say I can’t do this! Then she told us a bit more about the story (The story was made up) how Ned had to find his mindset. He needed to climb Mt Everest, Walk through a jungle & fix a UFO to find it. At the end of the story Nicole started asking us questions. Harlo answered the first one, Shavam answered the second one and I answered the last one. Harlo was given a glow in the dark Yoyo, Shavam was given a Boomerang Yoyo & I was given an Accelerator. Now at school we have a Ned zone with a sign that says only Yo in the Ned Zone. I am really glad that I answered the last question so I saved my Mum some money on a Yoyo. The N stands for Never give up, the E stands for Encourage others & the D stands for Do your best. Here is an animation I made.

Aussie Drive

Kia ora Bloggers! In Te Ngahere we have been writing some stories about those 4 kids stealing a car in Australia and driving to Grafton. Here is my draft

Twas a fine sunday morning and the birds were all singing. Possums were creeping and snakes were slithering. This morning was no different than another except for 4 children awake; not really sleeping. They crept out of their rooms those little munchkins. Into their living rooms they crept… An idea of greatness. To steal a car & drive to the beach for a day to remember. One of the boys, the mischievous of all, ran to his parents' room. His dad's keys he did steal. Outside they all met. Into the car they crept, turning it on with a twist of a key, off they go, as mischievous as can be.

So how are we gonna get petrol? Asked the youngest, a girl of 10 named AJ. We’ll have to steal it. Said her superior Harlem, Who’s gonna do it? NOT ME!! They all shouted making the driver swerve on the road. Alright. Zane you do it. He said. Fine but I’m not refilling the tank. He jumped out of the car as they slowed down and ran to the station, a gas can he did steal. Alright let's go. All over the news the story of their ride did spread. Four young children, through Aussie they sped.

In the next car over a family was riding. Talking with each other not even noticing… Mum, Can I please use my ipad now? Sure Franky wait… why is there a kid driving a Nissan Sport? Quick Paul, Call 000! The authorities were notified & started the chase, for a Nissan sport, driving away from this place.

Driving along they reached a place named Grafton, a car full of children, finding a place to go swimming. Once in the centre throughout the town they drove, although they were vigilant, they still didn’t realise that they were being tailed by Officer Dale, Chief Mikaire & Sergeant Kayden. Pull over and we won’t have to resort to brute force! Yelled Sergeant Kayden. Quick Jack, Lock the doors! Yelled Harlem. That’s it! Yelled Chief Mikaire. Break the window! Smash went the window when the baton collided with the glass of the Nissan Sport. Away they were taken back home to their family’s still to be questioned another day...

I think I did really well when I was trying to write my story using direct speech as well as writing it as a narrative. While I was writing I sort of went for the Dr Seuss approach to it like saying twas a fine sunday morning and all the possums were creeping. When I first heard of what happened I was really confused, whose car did they steal? Were they siblings or friends? We’ll never know!
