Things you need to know about caring for your teeth

Kia Ora Bloggers! Last week in Te Ngahere we had a dentist come into our class to talk to us about caring for our teeth and our mouths. She talked to us about how if you have a cavity it’s not always on the surface of your teeth, they can sometimes be on the inside of them. I learnt that we brush our teeth to get rid of the plaque on our teeth. Plaque is this stuff that grows on your teeth and if you leave it there for too long then it will become hard as rock and can cause cavities. It’s amazing what happens in your mouth that you don’t know about. After she left we created some Digital Learning Objects to show what we learnt. Here is Mikaire and I’s.

I think we did really well when we were trying to make the DLO funny for the readers. Are there any further questions you would like answered? Blog you later

Fun with Multiplication!

Kia Ora Bloggers! This week in Te Ngahere we have been learning how to do standard written form for addition, subtraction, multiplication & division. I was learning how to do Standard Written Form for Multiplication using 2 digit numbers. I learnt that this is extremely easy if you know all of your basic facts. We had to multiply 2 digit numbers as it is the next step from single digit numbers. Though it was quite hard at the start trying to understand what the placeholder was and why I had to put it  under the ones showing that I am not using the ones anymore, now that I have done quite a few questions around this topic it is a lot easier for me. Here is my DLO!

I think in my opinion that I made the right choice when I put in a word problem and asked the readers (You) to answer it in the comments. Can’t wait to see how you figure out that question! If you think there was a better way I could have done this could you please tell me? Blog you all later!

Bear Hunt

Kia Ora Bloggers! This week in Te Ngahere we have been creating movies for the film festival. We had to get into a group of three or 4 and brainstorm some ideas. Mark O, Franky, Mikaire & I created one about a bear hunt. Here is our script.

Bear Hunt
Characters
Billy: Mark O
Bob: Jack
Bear: Mikaire
Director: Franky
Once upon a time
There was a bear terrorising the home of two hunters.
Every day
The bear would go over to the house and scratch the door trying to get into the house to eat them.
Until one day
The two boys had enough and went to find the bear.
Because of that
They traveled through the forest
Because of that
They get hungry because they forgot to pack food
Because of that
They start crawling on the ground
Because of that
They saw the cave and the bear and got up
Until finally
They defeated the bear
Ever since then
They had a new piece of furniture on their living room floor
Moral of the story is
If things are going wrong. Don’t just sit there. Do something about it
Script:

Sitting in the living room of their house drinking tea

Billy: “what a wonderful day”

Bob: “Yeah it is!”

Bear starts to bang on the door to get in.

Billy: “that stupid bear will knock down that door soon! we need to stop it!”

Bob: “How?”

Bear:”ROAR”

Bob & Billy: AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Bob: “RUN!”

(They run in circles and then into each other)

Billy: “OW!”

Bear runs away

Bob: “alright it’s gone, we need to find where the bear is and stop it!”

Billy: “yeah Lets do it”

They leave the house and start to follow the footprints

A few hours later...

Billy is Crawling: “I need water.”

Bob is Crawling: “sssame I’m thuuursty... uhhhh”

Billy: “Oh. There's the cave, let's go in” Quickly gets up

Inside the cave

Bear: “RRRRROOOOAAAARRRR!!!!!!!”

Billy:”AHHHHHHHH, My phone died :(”

Bob “Why are you screaming at your dead phone!? THERE’S A GIANT BEAR RIGHT THERE!!! AHHHHHHHHHHH were gonna die :0 ”

Bear starts getting closer

Bob faints

Billy: “Uhhhhhhhhh oh Well this is convenient!” Picks up Nerf gun lying on floor

Billy shoots the bear with a Nerf gun.

Bear falls on ground

Bear: RAAAR!

Billy carries it home just as Bob wakes up.

Bear is on floor as a bear skin rug and Billy and Bob are drinking Tea celebrating their victory with their legs on top of him like he is a footrest.

Billy: “want some more tea?”

Bob: “Yes please chap”

Bear starts talking

Bear: “Remember kids, If things are going wrong. Don’t just sit there. Do something about it!”

Bob: yeah do something about it AND Bye LOL

The End

We’ve been preparing for these movies for quite a while now by learning about story beats. We had to start making our movies by starting with story beats talking about Once upon a time, Everyday, Until one day, Because of that x3, Until finally, Ever since then & a Moral. Next we had to create a more detailed script with dialogue in it. Do you think that we could have added anything more to our script that would have made it funnier? Please write it down in the comments below! Blog you later!

Reusing and Attributing Images

Kia Ora Bloggers! This week in Te Ngahere we have been learning how to reuse and attribute images, we did this because we are always taking photos from the internet but we never check if we can actually use them so we did this to make sure we aren’t copyrighting. The first step was to take an image from explore and then go onto it’s link and see if we could use it, then we had to write down the license and put down the links to where it came from. I’m definitely going to use this learning when we’re making DLO’s by checking if I can use it so I don’t get in trouble for copyright. For more information check out my DLO

Hummus

Kia Ora Bloggers! Today we went to project energize with Whaea Gina. Usually we just sit in the whare and talk about healthy choices but this time we actually got to make Hummus! Whaea Gina told us we were doing this because hummus usually costs quite a bit at the store so this is a more financially friendly way to eat healthy food.
Step 1, pour a can of chickpeas into a blender.
Step 2, scoop a generous amount of peanut butter into the blender.
Step 3, add some salt and pepper
Step 4, add some lemon juice
Step 5, now add some paprika
Now blend the ingredients together.
Now you have your hummus
I thought that the hummus was delicious even though I really dislike chickpeas and peanut butter.

Hugh Jackman

Kia Ora Bloggers! This Weekend My Mum, sister and I went to Auckland. We stayed at the Copthorne hotel in our very own suite! I only found out about that when Bella and I went downstairs to order some hot chips when I looked at the board with all the rooms on it and saw that our room, 606 was a suite. I was really happy about that because I have never stayed in a suite before. Around 6.30pm we went to the Spark Arena for the Hugh Jackman Show!! We had to wait for half an hour once we got there for Hugh Jackman to get ready but we were all entertained by a DJ who came out and put on some music for all of us. He said to us that we need to sing really loud with the NZ songs so Hugh Jackman would get used to our songs. I wasn’t really listening to that though. We were up by the top 2 rows on row ss and I was really scared of accidentally falling down. While we were waiting we saw these people dressed up as PT Barnum (Hugh Jackman) The Bearded lady (Keala Settle) and Jenny Lind (Rebecca Ferguson). Mum said it’s really cool to see people like that. When Hugh Jackman came out he started talking to all of us about his life as a little kid. His wife Debra and what is gonna happen that night. My favourite part of the entire show was when Keala Settle got a standing ovation from every single person in spark arena after she sang This is Me. Here are some photos

Project Energize

Kia Ora Bloggers! For the past few weeks in Te Ngahere we have been doing this thing called Project Energize. Project energize focuses on the health of all people. Our lesson today was about the kinds of drinks that we can have every day, sometimes & occasionally. Mikaire and I Created a DLO about it. Here it is.

We were trying to find out what kind of healthy choices we should be making. We learnt that even though some drinks may not always taste like it they sure can have a lot of sugar in them. Did you know that if you do not usually have sugar then once you have something like a coca cola then it will taste way to sweet! I think in the DLO Mikaire and I made we did well by explaining what drinks would go in which category like the water and the milk in the everyday. I’m happy now because I now know that on a special day at my house I know to think before I have an energy drink or anything like that. Blog you Later

He Aha Tenei?

Kia Ora Bloggers! This week in Te Ngahere we have been doing some Te Reo Maori. Dezray and I created a presentation. Here it is.

We had to ask questions in Maori like “what is this?” and then reply saying “that is a” in Maori (“He Aha Tenei”, what is this & “He ______ Tena” that is…) I really liked doing this because we got to learn new Maori Kupu (Kupu Means words in Maori) so we can be more connected to the New Zealand language that lots of people have been brought up learning. We used this life changing site named Remove.bg. It is a really awesome site that you can use to take the background out of any picture (Here is the link). We are really lucky that Aj & Kaitlin went to the E Learning Symposium and found out about this spectacular site. Maybe next time we do this Dezray & I could maybe make it that I’m holding and he’s pointing. Blog you later!!
