Bioblitz

Kia Ora Blogger! This week in Te Ngahere us Year 6’s went to Wairoa Bay. We got to meet real scientists and walk around Wairoa Bay with them and complete certain activities. For the first day my group did Birds, Mammals, Reptile & Inter Tidal. My favourite activity was Inter Tidal. We did the Bioblitz to survey what Wairoa Bay is like now compared to 250 years ago when Joseph Banks and Daniel Sollinder surveyed it. The things we were surveying were the things living there and the plants to see if they were doing ok. There was Entomology (Insects), Mammals, Reptiles, Birds, Marine Life & Even Mushrooms & Fungi. During the first activity we learnt about mammals, I learnt that you can tell the difference between the different pests through their poop and their footprints. A cool thing I learnt is that the difference between a dog and cat footprint is that a dogs claws dig into the ground when the cats don’t bring out their claws so you just see their foot. I can’t wait to see what the results were! Blog you later!
